As construction engineers, our everyday work environment is noisy. When is noise considered a hazard? How conscientious are you of your hearing health?
If you are consistently exposed to 85 dBA’s or more during the day (which is somewhere between a passing diesel truck and a lawn mower…), you should be wearing hearing protection.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) developed a Sound Level Meter App for your phone. It’s a tool that, I think, everyone in construction should have in their toolboxes.
This quick-read article includes a link to the NIOSH website where you can download it and put it to use.
